If you are a contractor, flipper, rehabber or specialty trade, you know what Im talking about. We know what we are doing and when it comes time to pull a permit, the trouble starts. We are held at the mercy of planners more concerned with trees than sewer lines. We have to deal with planners who don't respect us and make us resubmit, resubmit, resubmit all to make the fees climb and climb. It costs us too much time and money and then the inspectors come out and not only inspect what we have scheduled, they start looking at everything else, just to be able to get those fees in. Enough! This needs to stop. We can be heard in numbers.

Totally agreed, It just to take us 6 months from beginning to end to build a house now we are looking at 12-18 month for completion
We are taxpayers, too! The City SHOULD be working in partnership with builders to get jobs done properly, not being our adversaries. It seems like the culture of the building department is to make it as difficult as possible to get the permit, then as difficult as possible to get thru inspections and close the permit.

I'm in agreement. The system is severely broken. There's no consistency from one plan reviewer to the next.
6 month stop work order and no permit. Seriously ? Is this legal ? Is this Florida ? Yes indeed. The permit and building office has totally destroyed my home , business and I’m on the virge of bankruptcy now all because they are so uptight about applying for the proper permit. My first home purchase in FL, will be my last!
I believe that the city has good intentions, but they must be held accountable to the citizens for the services they are supposed to give to the business community. The process must be improved and the city needs to provide the department with more resources. The city is booming and we need better and faster response and service from the city permit office.
It seems to be unjust. They tell you it will cost double and then before the process is completed, it is much more than that. The process to get approval by an individual when they didn't know a permit was needed because the persons who did the work didn't get one, is horrible.

This process coat my first time home buyer a beautiful house. Now he's trying to buy a much worse one since so much time was wasted and the market changed. Renovation restores our city. Be user friendly.
