The University is proposing to make Jo and Jim redundant (to cut university spending and costs) and intend to advertise the job roles to those who are simply not qualified to assist us artistically. The job will be offered to the staff who are being made redundant from estates and services (such as coffee shops) and, with no disrespect intended, whilst these members of staff are a valued part of the community, they will not have the technical knowledge, experience and understanding that we have all been so lucky to experience with Jo and Jim.

This is yet another ploy by the university to attack the creative arts, in my opinion, this is one of the first steps to get rid of most of the creative courses, we’ve all seen how desperate they are to try and close our courses...DO NOT sit by and allow your extortionate tuition fees to go towards building another million pound science building. This is a valuable resource and part of what makes our School of Arts such an enjoyable community. FIGHT TO SAVE OUR ART SHOP!

we are almost at a thousand signatures and the university is definitely taking notice of the heat we are putting on them. keep the momentum going because if we push hard right now they wont be able to ignore us.

Staffs Alumni here. The Art Shop is an incredible resource for students and the wonderful people that staff it are a major part of that resource. To get rid of them would be a crying shame and an absolute disservice to the students that you are supposed to be supporting.

I use this shop regularly for supplies for art workshops in the community. (I work for NHS) good value. Good choice of products. Excellent knowledge from staff. What a loss it would be for students and the community if it closes.

No way are they getting rid of jim and jo! Those two helped me through the most stressful time in my fine art course, and how can they say it cuts costs when that shop gets more customers then the student shop? save jim and jo!

NO! The art shop is a fundamental part of any of the arts courses at staffs uni! Jo & Jim have assisted our theatre degree many a time when we’ve needed hardcore supplies to hold pieces of or staging and props together. Save jo and Jim!

I’ve received many helpful advices from Jo and Jim about the materials that I needed. E.g. they know the best green hue for green screen, they know how to use modelling clay and what wires to use for a particular piece of artwork.

Having someone who is qualified and know exactly what we need, even when we don’t know what we need, is essential to our success in creative subjects. Replace them with people who aren’t qualified to work with the arts, and our education will suffer!

My firdt year would have been alot more difficult without this shop, it has help me over all 3 of my university years, I would hate to see new students not having the same resources that were available to me taken from them
