Final supporters
In 2009, the Government of Alberta promised Mount Royal University a 2% increase in provincial grant funding for the following 3 years. Mount Royal University has been relying on receiving over $13 million promised to them to run their degree programs, but have not received the total promised amount. Because of this, Mount Royal is now facing a $16 million deficit and is forced to find other avenues to fund their programs, such as increasing tuition to certain programs.
Further, other institutions in Alberta are not facing the same issues as Mount Royal. In fact, some Alberta institutions are posting surpluses, while MRU is forced to cut programs and decrease the numbers of seats available.
The Government of Alberta needs to do a thorough investigation into the current funding model for Alberta institutions. If you agree that these inadequacies in funding for Mount Royal University should be addressed immediately, then please sign the petition below.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the momentum this is gaining. It is truly humbling to see so many of you care about the future of our university when I started this just hoping for a conversation.

It makes no sense that other schools have surpluses and we have to cut programs. What is going on at the capital??
My parents are struggling enough as it is. Just keep your promises Alberta govt.
FIX THE FUNDING. Why should our education suffer because of poor management at the top?
Tuition is already way to high. How do they expect students to pay for this when were already broke from books and rent.
Already paid enough. Enough is enough.
