The council has finally backed down and revoked the ban on memorial flowers. I am drained from this fight but incredibly grateful that our benches can remain places of comfort. We will keep an eye on things to make sure this decision holds.

Dover district council have decided to put a ban on any flowers or ornaments being placed by loved ones on memorial benchs along walmer and deal seafront , according to DDC it is a health and safety risk ! This is both ridiculous and insensitive to the family's of the people who have a memorial bench who take great comfort from placing items on these benches, not to mention the very high cost the council charge the family's to place these memorial benches in the first place , please sign and share this petition so that we can present it to the council

The council is watching our progress as we pull closer to the five hundred signature mark. I am exhausted by this fight but I refuse to let them ignore our heartbreak until we reach that milestone.

I think we should be able to pay respects and remember our loves ones in any way we wish on benches that as a family we pay for and have to upkeep. However I do think that cable ties should not be used string is a much better idea.
Disgusting. My mother in law has great pride and comfort putting flowers on her husband's bench. The public also enjoy seeing the display there. Without that there will be an emptiness there. Absolutely no need for this.
I simply do not understand how the council has reached this decision. I revel in observing the floral tributes as I walk the promenade. I cannot fathom how this is a Health and Safety issue and finally, haven't the council got more important work to be managing?
Go weekly to put flowers on my nans bench who is greatly missed she loved flowers so is a great idea to put flowers there makes the whole sea front look lovely and is rediculous how this would be a health and safety risk!! Very sad.
Health & Safety!!! A bunch of flowers on a bench!! You need to be concentrating on important issues!! If you're talking about H&S get someone permanently along the promenade catching people not cleaning up their dogs poo!!!!
Don't stop greving family's from putting flowers on there own benches.

I think by placing the ban, you are taking away the families link they have made to their loved ones. What harm does it do? Leave them to mourn their loved ones, we all have different ways of mourning, no one way is right or wrong.
