To Premier David Alward, the Honorable Jody Carr, the Honorable Sue Stultz and to our Moncton City Councillors: I sincerely hope you will support our community project to build two new sports fields on District 2 land adjacent to Bernice MacNaughton Highschool. The project calls for an articial turf field, a running track and practice fields which will be utilized by District 2 schools and community amateur sports organizations. We believe this project should be supported for three main reasons:
1) Although District 2 school board has over 16,000 students and 38 schools there are no sports tracks available at any of the schools. Our students need and deserve a sports track.
2) Greater Moncton intends to host a major track & field event in 2012 and 2013. The new fields will be utilized for the event and the facilities will also help Moncton secure other contracts to host sports events in the future.
3) Amateur sports organizations have a difficult time securing safe playing fields in
Greater Moncton. The addition of the new artificial turf will ensure that more teams have greater access to better facilities.
The project needs financial support from the city of Moncton and the province of New Brunswick in order to be successful. On behalf of the students and amateur sports participants, we sincerely hope you will choose to assis this worthy project.
