At its meeting on January 3, 2011, the Ames Community School Board unveiled its recommendation for elementary school scenarios which included building new schools, renovating existing schools, reopening closed schools and closing currently operating schools. In all of these scenarios, Fellows would no longer operate as an elementary school at its current location. We, concerned residents of Ames, believe that Gertrude Fellows Elementary School should be maintained as a viable community school option for the future. At its current location, Fellows is a centrally located site in a safe neighborhood and comprehensively serves the educational needs of elementary students in Ames.
