Attn: Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission

We, the undersigned, are unequivocally OPPOSED to the proposed SPOT-ZONING of Felician Sisters of North America’s property at 1297 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT to accommodate a major redevelopment of the campus to facilitate the addition of 250 mixed-use residential units as well as other structural and infrastructural development (PH#3040MA – 1297 Enfield Street–Zone change request from HR-33 to SDD; Felician Sisters of North America Real Estate Trust, Applicant/Owner; Map 49/Lot 2; HR-33 Zone).

Boston-based The Community Builders has been contracted to develop the Felician Sisters campus. The project raises great concern for the future of Enfield Montessori School (currently situated on this property), as well as concerns for the safety of the school’s young students. Additionally, there are a number of community concerns, including increased density and traffic, stress on emergency services, increased cost burden on taxpayers, pedestrian and traffic safety issues, and historic district conflicts.

This petition will be delivered to the Enfield Planning & Zoning Commission at the public hearing to be held at its regular meeting on Thursday September 8, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., in the Town Hall Council Chambers at 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT.

The momentum is undeniable now. Enfield is clearly paying attention to this rezoning threat.

The traffic on Enfield Street is already a nightmare during peak hours. Adding 250 units is just going to make it impossible to get anywhere.

Would think the facility would be better suited for affordable senior living space.

This project is short sighted and will negatively impact the history and future of this area.
