Additional Dog Parks for Fayetteville, Arkansas
On Saturday, July 5th, 2008, we kicked off a dog owner involvement push for additional dog parks in Fayetteville with a short Pup Parade at the Farmers\' Market. We received an encouraging amount of support with over 27 dog owners and 35 dogs in the parade. Fayetteville currently has one dog park adjacent to the Animal Shelter. We found that most dog owners are unaware that it exists. Parks and Recreation will consider opening Lake Wilson Park as an off-leash dog park if there is sufficient interest. In an effort to grow that support, we\'re asking those concerned and committed to the challenge to sign our petition requesting additional dog parks for Fayetteville. Such facilities are important because they provide dogs and their owners a safe place to exercise and socialize, and regularly exercised dogs tend to be less aggressive and quieter. Dog parks also signal that Fayetteville is pet-friendly. Please join us by signing the petition, and follow our progress at http://www.walteilersformayor.com.
