We, the citizens of the city of Fayetteville, petition the city to change the street names of Chattel Street and Plantation Avenue within Heritage Village neighborhood.
The use of these street names is blatantly racist, demeaning, and hurtful to members of the neighborhood as well as members of the city of Fayetteville. These street names do not reflect Fayetteville’s recent commitment to diversity, inclusion, and safety for ALL. Rather, they promote racism within the community and reflect a pride held by the city of Fayetteville regarding a history of racism and chattel slavery. To deny this petition and the removal of these street names is to demean entire people groups and reduce their humanity to that of physical property.
I demand that the city of Fayetteville enforce the renaming of Plantation Avenue and Chattel Street.

The city council continues to ignore these offensive street names despite our progress. Send an email to your representative today demanding that they address the history behind our street signs. We need to keep the pressure on until these names are changed for good.

Ridiculous that we still have streets named like this in 2020. change them now.
Agree totally. living in heritage village shouldn't mean having to see names like that every single day.

I been living here for 12 years and always thought those names were awful. lets change them.
