On March 11th, 2007, a mother(Sridevi Chalapati), her daughter (Sri Nayana Chalapati) and the child\'s grandmother(Surya Prabhavati Burugapalli) were involved in a fatal collision with a Via Rail train at the crossing on the extension of Speedvale Avenue in Guelph. The driver\'s daughter(9) was killed instantly and her mother(55) died later that week in hospital. The driver herself, has catastrophic injuries and remains in hospital.
This could have been your family or mine.
This crossing has lights, but no crossing arms and the track is on an angle, making it nearly impossible to see a train coming from the left, when proceeding west bound. The afternoon sun could be a factor in being able to see the flashing lights that are currently installed.
This road is being used more and more as a connection to Kitchener and Cambridge from the west side of Guelph. To have a passenger train flying through the countryside, without a physical barrier preventing cars from crossing the tracks, is not acceptable.
If you agree, please sign your name to the petition and continue sending it to everyone you know.
Together, perhaps we can make a difference and give this family some comfort
in knowing that something good came from their huge loss.
We hit five hundred signatures and that is five hundred people who acknowledge that Via Rail blood is on their hands for ignoring this death trap. City officials have been silent for far too long while families pay the ultimate price for their cheapness.

This is ridiculous. Train crossings need physical barriers. Lights are not enough.

I drive through here almost every day and it is terrifying. The sun glare is real bad in the afternoon. Put the arms in now.

How many more people have to die before they fix this crossing? It is 2014 and we still have crossings without arms. It is just common sense.

So tragic. Fix this before another family gets hurt.

Guelph needs to step up. Too much traffic on Speedvale now for such a dangerous setup. Fix it while you can.

My heart breaks for this family. This never should have happened in the first place.
