It is finally official that the planning application is moving forward and honestly I am just sitting here stunned because I really thought the process would drag on for another year at least. Sometimes you just have to keep pushing even when people are yelling at you for no good …

In a free country, you can build whatever you want with permission. Be it a mosque, church or whatever, you can't stop people from being free. You may not like something or people's views but that doesn't mean they don't have the right to go ahead with it. For those people that are complaining that its in the place of The Waltham Oak PUB, it closed down and was for sale so even if a Mosque was not to get built here, something other than a pub would have and if the community wanted the pub to stay there so desperatley, somebody should have bought it and kept one there. So if you think it is right, please support the Faizan-e-Islam's planning application to convert the former Waltham Oak Pub into a Mosque/Community Centre, by signing this petition you would help greatly, Thank You.

I have been reading through the comments all morning and it really hits me how much people just want a space that welcomes everyone regardless of what used to be in that building. It is honestly bizarre to see people clinging to a closed pub when there could be a vibrant community hub there instead so I am currently drafting a letter to the planning office to remind them that progress is actually a good thing for Walthamstow.

I really did not think this would gain this much steam when I first typed it out on my phone in the kitchen. It is wild to see people actually showing up for this space because honestly the building was just sitting there empty for ages and it deserves a purpose again.

The pub has been sitting empty for ages. It is much better to have a community space there than a derelict eyesore that nobody is using.

People need to stop whining about it. If they really cared about the pub they should have bought the building themselves. Simple as that.

About time something useful went in that building. So much negativity over nothing!

It is about time we had a proper centre for everyone in the area. Really hope this goes through.
