Fairfield Prep 2020 Graduation

As a grandparent of a graduate this year, and a graduate if the class of 2018, and a member of the of the class of 2023, I am disappointed that Prep couldn’t find a way to celebrate the sense of community that the school works so hard to instill in their young men as they graduate.

I believe there are sheet measures that could allow for this momentous event to take place in person. Please reconsider.

In my first days as President of Fairfield Prep I have heard repeatedly of the heroic efforts and sacrifices made by the Prep Class of 2020 and our dedicated Prep faculty, staff, coaches, mentors and administrative leaders during the extraordinary academic year just ended. I congratulate you for your faith, courage and embrace of Fairfield Prep's mission to become men of conscience, competence and compassion. Following this week's announcement of Fairfield Prep's graduation exercises scheduled for Aug. 2, our Principal Dr. Tommy de Quesada and I have received numerous messages of concern regarding our planned in-person, individual drive-up graduation exercises. As a Jesuit, Catholic school of excellence, you have come to know that two hallmarks of our Ignatian charism are discernment and care of the individual person. In that spirit, I wish to offer an initial response to your concerns. As a parent of a Catholic high school senior in the Class of 2020, I know personally of the profound disappointment experienced by our sons this academic year. As a parent of a Prep graduate, Class of 2015, I know of the sacred culmination of the graduation exercises at Fairfield Prep, which are second to none. Finally, as a father of an incoming son of the Prep Class of 2023, I know that we all aspire to model our Prep values in this time of global pandemic, a period which still poses existential threats to our communities and families. They deserve a graduation

A Jesuit institution should be able to do better than what is currently planned for the graduation. You will especially regret holding it as planned when you ask the 2020 graduates to donate to the school in a few years.

This can of course be achieved abiding by all current recommendations Please reconsider current arrangements

We can use the stands at Rafferty to spread everybody out. The seniors deserve an in person graduation.

After missing out on so much, it would be terrific for the boys to have something special to celebrate their achievements. if any school can do it- Prep can!

Plenty of campus fields Fairfield ! (and long quiet roads) Maybe a parade of sorts, just with red masks instead of red bow ties :)

My son is a senior at SJ and their in person graduation ceremony really gave the kids some closure

A better graduation is deserved.
