Final supporters
The Vale of Glamorgan receives one of the lowest levels of funding from the Welsh Government.
The Vale receives £202 less per person than Cardiff, £226 less than Bridgend and £409 less than Rhondda Cynon Taff.
The needs of each Authority differ and it would be unfair to call for the same level of spend as RCT. However, Cardiff and Bridgend are better comparators, with Cardiff being one of the most prosperous parts of the UK.
In 2011/12 the difference with Cardiff was £126 and in 2010/11 it was £73. If we received the same funding per person as Cardiff, the Vale would gain an additional £25.6M to spend this year alone.
This money could finance one and a half new secondary schools – every year. Imagine the type of regeneration that could be supported in our towns and villages.

If we matched with the Cardiff figure I am sure this wold go some way towards keeping council tax down. If we had to amalgamate with Cardiff under the Williams proposals would they bring Cardiff down to our level or increase our funding level?
The Vale requires fair funding to address it's own unique geographical and demographic needs; public transport, services for the elderly and disabled in remote areas, maintaining roads and providing employment opportunities for young people are key.
This gross unfairness has existed since the last local government reorganistion. As an ex-school governor I know that per capita funding for secondary students in the Vale is not only the lowest in Wales but also the lowest in the United Kingdom
The Vale deserves a fairer slice of the cake.There are an increasing number of elderly living in the Vale with isolation and poor transport links being a huge problem.The cost of providing care to a scattered population is considerably higher.
It is a matter of urgency that the underfunding of the Vale is brought to an end. Fair and comparable funding with Cardiff and Bridgend is imperative so that the Vale and Barry can be regenerated after decades of under investment and neglect.

The Vale of Glamorgan is struggling to maintain services and infrastructure, It is time the Welsh Government reviewed their funding and made a more equitable settlement. Our Council tax is already higher than Cardiff and the gap increases every year.
