Petition for FAIR ACCESS TO THE INTERNET

Petition summary and background

The FCC Definition for “basic broadband” is 4 Mbps downstream; 1 Mbps upstream;

We are tired of dealing with unreliable, spotty and slow outdated Internet service,(running on old patched copper wires implemented over fifty years ago running 0.0 Mbps to 1.5 Mbps while the surrounding area roads have access to Cable and Fiber Optics for internet,phone and TV service .

We intend to deliver letters to local providers, the FCC, IRP Coalition, as well as select state and county governments to implement the needed changes.

Action petitioned for

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge Comcast, Verizon and any other provider that is currently servicing the surrounding streets and area to act now to provide FAIR ACCESS to all.

54 homes in 6 lakes West

I do a significant amount of business related work at my residence and I am significantly hampered by the extreme lack performance and more-so of bandwidth. We have lines pass right by our development and do not understand why we can not get service off that.

I live in six lakes west and the internet runs under 350kbs (on a good day) download speed with only 1 device running and on in the entire house (even though the speedtest site says "1mbs" which i don't believe). This can become very problematic for me especially if i continue in the computer science/programming field since it does require heavy internet use. I would also really prefer not have to leave the house for hours on end just to do homework/home exams. Some of the classes i would have taken would be online courses, but with the speed we have I can't because our internet doesn't support streaming.

I have 4 kids all school age whom need Internet to do school work. They are being penalized because companies don't want to run cable or fios into our neighborhood. Talk about being left in the Stone Age.

I moved into Six Lakes West on 11 March 2016 and have yet to have a stable internet connection. I have rebooted my router approximately 20 times per day with a max speed of 1.28 mbps. The internet and service from Verizon has been the worst I have ever had and paying $70 for this type of service is unfair for the customer. I am required to complete online classes from work but unable to stream any services due to the slow speed. I am paying for the 1.1 - 3.0 DSL Plan and Verizon let me know on the first day of service that I probably would not be able to stream without excessive buffering. The many technicians that have been out to try and fix the issue have let me know that the line is rated at 1.5 mbps. Just recently I found out that Verizon had locked my internet at a max speed of 1.5 mbps and their reason was to try and keep a solid connection which of course has not worked. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
