The local council officially blocked the expansion into our fields, which means our village is safe for now. I spent so many nights worrying about losing this landscape, but we actually pulled it off. We will stay vigilant to ensure these protections remain permanent.

Final supporters
This is a petition to extend the Green Belt to protect the Village of East Malling in Kent, safeguarding it for future generations. This would create a green buffer zone to prevent future endless urban sprawl. It'll maintain a bit of breathing space for the people of East Malling and Kings Hill.
The map shows the current Green Belt in dark green. The light green shade shows the sort of extension many people what to see happen.

I have been walking the fields around the village lately and thinking about how quickly this open space could disappear under concrete. Your comments about preserving our local heritage are keeping me focused while I prepare the formal proposal for the council.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am far from the only person who feels like our local landscape is slipping away. It feels incredible to know so many of you value these fields as much as I do.

The Green Belt certainly needs extending without delay. Large areas of Research Centre land have as far as I understand been offered up for possible development.
As a regular walker in the area, I enjoy these spaces. I do not want East Malling to be swallowed up by Kings Hill, nor do I want traffic from KH using Chapel Street / High Street as access / rat run
West Malling, East Malling and Kings Hill need to be kept separate and the farms, footpaths, bridle ways and quiet lanes between them protected for the enjoyment of their residents and people from further afield who visit the area.
We own a property in Well Street and bought this property because of its beautiful country surroundings in a quiet and peaceful country lane. It is very important that the surrounding area is protected against any future development.
Keep It East Malling protected. I moved here because I love the area but did NOT want to live in KH or West Malling. I don't want to be forced to become part of a larger urban spread if it swallows this quaint village.
The area surrounding East Mailing is beautiful and is a huge attraction to actually living in the area. Every effort should be made to avoid this unnecessary expansion. Kent should not be continually pressurised to be built upon, the key issue is to address london's housing plans. The number of vacant (investment) properties in London is ridiculous, if these were filled with genuine home owners there would be much less pressure on surrounding areas.
We need to love, nurture and keep our green spaces everywhere. Once it's gone, it's gone for good!

I support extension of the green belt to protect the separation of West Malling, East Malling and Kings Hill. Kings Hill should not develop beyond the boundaries of the airfield brownfield site on line with assurances provided when it was first proposed.
