They actually folded and we get to keep the courtyard space so I am literally spinning in my chair right now. It turned out that if you just keep talking about the courtyard enough they finally hear you and honestly I am so glad that we are staying put for …

WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR DONATIONS! DO NOT DONATE THROUGH THIS PLATFORM!

Charleston County has graciously given us access to the courtyard behind The Café till December 31st, 2020 to offset the restrictions placed on indoor dining because of Covid. We have created a beautiful and safe space for local diners that not only compliments the Charleston County Building and makes good use of the Courtyard but also strengthens our city as a tourist destination even during uncertain times. This forward-thinking pilot program has allowed us to remain open, call our employees back to work and further our sense of purpose in the downtown Charleston community we have called home for 36 years. This should be a model for expansion not subtraction. Unfortunately, Charleston County (not the City, not Mayor Tecklenburg) has signaled that it's time to go back to business as normal and will not extend our permit. Even with state mandated restrictions lifted, our tiny indoor communal seating is very limiting with social distancing in effect. We have followed all the CDC guidelines to keep our employees and customers safe and in doing so have further gained the trust of our community, but to remain viable we must continue to use the courtyard until business can truly return to normal. If you agree and want to see a downtown Charleston that includes Gaulart & Maliclet please sign our petition.

I spent the morning staring at the courtyard wondering how anyone could look at that space and think it should just be empty again. I have been fielding calls all day and the confusion about why the county wants to pull the plug is just universal because nobody seems to have a real answer for us right now.

I logged on this morning and the sheer volume of support just completely floored me because honestly I really thought we were shouting into the void about this courtyard space. People keep sharing their own memories at the cafe and it reminds me why we fought so hard to keep the doors open through all the madness of this year.

This activity will enhance the quality of life near the courthouse and help keep a wonderful local business alive. This space is usually empty and deserted and few cafe tables with umbrellas won't constitute a threat to anyone.

Please extend the permit so that Fast and French can continue serving the community and visitors to the city as it has for over the past 30 years . It is businesses like these that keep the unique culture of the city alive.

There is no reason not to televise this to Fast and French! It was only walked over before. They have created a beautiful space which reminds me of dining in a European city. I love looking at L. Mendel Rivers Statue from behind! What a view and such serenity!

We need outdoor seating because we are still in a pandemic! Fast and French is one of the only places I feel safe eating at because they have taken so many measures to ensure a safe dining experience. Please extend their Outdoor dining!

Can’t believe it took a pandemic for Charleston to get with it regarding outdoor and patio availability. To dial back these changes would be short-sighted and harmful to employees and businesses. We should learn from this situation and grow forward.

One of our fav places to go in Charleston. Please extend this permit to allow this wonderful and unique restaurant to stay open. With their classic euro indoor communal seating they won’t be able to seat enough customers safely without the out door space and stay in business.

This only makes sense...something too often lacking in Charleston government.

Please grant them the use of the outdoor space for tables so Fast and French can stay in business.
