This petition is about expanding the Newark subway into Belleville, North Newark, Kearny, and Arlignton. The tracks that are there now is the former NJT Lower Boonton line. The service on the line was discontinued in September of 2002 in result of the Monclair connection. I also had an idea that would restore commuter service from the Monclair connection in the areas that the light rail wouldnt reach. When the line gets closer into Belleville it would turn into a one-track line parrallel to the Light Rail tracks. After the Arlignton Station, the commuter tracks will convert back to two tracks and continue on towards the Westend Switchover and go to Hoboken. The Light rail would use the old Orange Branch to reach the Boonton Line, then crossover and use one track parrallel to the commuter line. It would stop at Belleville's Rowe St. Station and at the Arlignton Station. The tracks also crossover the Newark Industrial Line. The Light Rail could serve the areas along the Valley portion of Belleville and in Newark as well. Nutley has not replied so we're unsure about anywhere past the Pathmark in Belleville. It would be cheaper to do it this way because the Light Rail would cost more because the tracks would have to be electrified for the total distance. It would also relieve congestion on the roads as well.
