Exeter Golf and Country Club could be forced to move its 18-hole golf course from its current location in Countess Wear if a planning application for safety netting is refused by councillors.
Exeter City Council is meeting on Monday September 30 to decide on the application. The Council has indicated that the application is going to be receommended for refusal.
The netting is needed to stop stray golf balls from leaving the course and causing injury or damage to homes that are being built too close to the golf course boundary. Without the netting, the Club is potentially liable for damage caused to property or person.

I just saw the number hit 100 which honestly feels wild because I was worried nobody else cared about these golf balls flying into backyards. It is so strange how things just start moving when you least expect it and now I really have to figure out how to get this in front of the council properly.

Once permission is granted, it will soon be sold to housing developers which we don't want to loose more fields to housing.

i am a former member of the golf club and still play there occasionally. it would be a disastrous decision to refuse planning application for the safety fence

if the council forces this move it will just be another nail in the coffin for local sports clubs. leave the course where it is.

it seems crazy to risk the club over basic safety measures. hope the council changes their mind on monday.

common sense needs to prevail here. how can they build houses that close and then complain about golf balls? put the netting up and get on with it.
