On May 10, 2019, Edward Waters College Board of Trustees approved the phasing out (closing) of the Education program as of December 2020. There are 173 students that are education majors at Edward Waters College who are in jeopardy of not being able to complete their degree at this institution. Therefore, we are asking for the signatures of those students and alumni in order to reinstate this program at Edward Waters College. Please sign this petition if you are in agreement with keeping the Education Department open at Edward Waters College.

EDWARD WATERS education program is the backbone of this institution.closing this department will hurt what the college stand for. It is a shame that adminstration outsider does not have a historical awareness of the value for this program for this historical community.
Closing down the program is not fair for the freshman that just arrived here and the ones who didn’t complete their education courses for their major. This program is one of the highest programs to be enrolled in. It doesn’t make sense to close it when a lot more solutions could have been made.
The education dept of EWC is responsible for over 85% of teachers in Duval County. I am a product of EWC Education Department. Taught for 44 years and recently retired. DO NOT PHASE OUT THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.
Keep the education department. If you don’t keep it, you will be destroying one of the best opportunities that this state has a putting black males at the for front of the teach field. You will be making it more difficult for our people to have a chance at being educators in this society.
Please do not phase out the Education Dept. Large percentage of educators in Jacksonville got their education degree from Edward Waters College. The graduates of that department are well respected and renown in that field.

I am a retired educator and had it not been for Edward Waters College, I don’t know where I (and thousand others) would have been in this journey called “ life”. Please don’t discontinue this program! As educators, we have impacted thousands of lives!!
