With the re-launch of ETSU Football it is time to rebrand the athletics. Buccaneers does not make sense for a school hundreds of miles from the coast. Since the sports teams are already often referred to as Bucs, changing the name to Bucks just makes sense.

The explanation from ETSU for the current Buccaneer mascot is a made up story. A quick google search will tell you that there is no record of a pirate by the name of Jean Paul LeBucque. Also it is pretty convenient for a Buccaneer to have the name LeBucque (LeBuc). There is also no record of Pirate Creek or any underground rivers in the tri-cities area.
Regardless of the story the mascot makes no sense and is embarrassing for a completely land-locked mountainous region 400 miles from the coast.
