The Assistant Education Professor Position in the UVic School of Music is hiring based on a preferential system. While we understand that this system has been put in place to aid in the diversification of the UVic faculty and we fully support this cause, its implementation is taking away an equal opportunity from a highly qualified and widely admired professor. This system is designed so that anyone who is aboriginal, has a physical disability, is a visible minority, or is a woman will be short-listed before any other qualified candidates. This means all qualified candidates not belonging to one of these groups will not be given a fair opportunity to audition.
