I fully endorse this petition. This is long overdue. The workload for full-time professors at the community colleges is exceedingly high that not only affects the quality of their teaching, but creates an undeserved burden for students in receiving the necessary care and attention they need in regards to mentoring and guidance.

Senior college have an equitable workload. But community colleges do not. And LaGuardia's president, in particular, expects us to adhere to the same tenure standards of senior college faculty despite the significantly more demanding workload. It is akin to slave labor and it's not fair.

The CC's should not have MORE classes than 4-year schools, as the CC's have added publication requirements that were never there before. IMAGINE teaching 9 classes--or even 7 (instead of 4 or 5) per year, plus summer school, and then be expected to write books & articles.
What us more important: attention to students or publishing for the sake of publishing ?
CC's use to have the focus on student - centered teaching. With 7-9 classes per year this becomes more & more impossible.
