In the UK, majority of the mosques are relying upon information provided by other countries to determine key Islamic dates such as the start of the new Islamic year, Eid ul Fitr, Eid ul Adha etc. The majority of the mosques follow sighting reports provide either by Saudi Arabia, Morocco or South Africa which historically may have been acceptable due to the lack of knowledge, understanding and infrastructure needed to carry out this task.
Today in 2019, the Muslim community continues to grow and we now have an increasing number of academics who have studied, qualified and are working in the fields of astronomy and science. Therefore the time has come for all of us in the UK to come together and follow a central moon sighting organisation.
The purpose of this petition is to highlight the wish of the Muslims in the UK that we would like to adopt a UK moon sighting organisation and use this petition as leverage to take to our local mosques and institutions and ask them to re-consider their sources when it comes to moonsighting.

The feedback I receive from many of you shows how exhausting this division has become for our community. Dealing with the pushback from established institutions is draining but I see the necessity of this work more clearly every single day.

We shouldnt follow Saudi anymore for moon sighting. We have the tools in the UK to do it.
As an Imam of a Masjid I have been educating the community on this issue for over a decade . I also have been attempting tonibsrve the crescent moon for almost every single month since 2006. This is very good objective. Also all Imams need to be trained in Islamic astronomy.
I agree, we need to come to one platform and bring back the " buzz" Eid brings. This moon issue has split families and we seriously need to think about the next generation growing up and all they have seen growing up is negativity within the Muslim community, locally and globally. Let's unite for once and put aside petty little differences. It's not important who is right or wrong, let's all do it in one day inshalah.
It's a very messed up world we live in where people in the same household do Eid on different days and how can we have 2 Eids? And how can 1 person be fasting and 1 person be doing Eid on the same day? I mean cmon theres only one Islam and theres only 1 rhamdhan every year. Saaudi or not saaudi ... this issue needs to be resolved.
Saudi have messed up once again The prince and king is a disgrace to lead the Muslim world astray.

Please if can get the committee leaders first as that makes it more easier and then Ulamah and sort this out in shaa Allah.
