Join Students United for Renewable Energy (S.U.R.E) as we aim to debunk recent coal companies' bold new methods of avoiding government cuts by "rebranding" their companies with the use of "clean coal technology". Recently, coal companies have announced that through the capturing of carbon dioxide and disposing it underground or in saline aquifers they have created "clean coal" and have contributed to reducing greenhouse emissions. However, America's coal companies new clean coal technology has major drawbacks. Two drawbacks include: high cost to capture carbon dioxide due to extra energy needed to consume the carbon dioxide and a major lack of sufficient research has not been published to help determine if the long term outcome will be a safe and permanent solution to greenhouse emissions. The new idea of "clean coal" has helped coal companies avoid new taxes for carbon dioxide and has created a new "environmentally friendly" brand. Help S.U.R.E. bring awareness to government officials and other community members that clean coal technology is only a marketing ploy coal companies use to avoid future taxes by creating a myth of new clean coal technology to appeal to the mass audience of America.
