According to section 804 part D of the Fair Housing Act, it is illegal, "To represent to any person because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin that any dwelling is not available for inspection, sale, or rental when such dwelling is in fact so available."
Northeastern university is discriminating by sex as well as by sexuality and gender identity. They purposely separate the housing choices for All Gender from normal housing selection and thereby deny All Gender participants access to the majority of housing.
According to when I met with Housing about this last year, there just isn't enough demand for All Gender for them to make changes. Let's show that we will not put up with this any longer.

Northeastern administration is still hiding behind the pathetic excuse that there is not enough demand for inclusive housing. They are banking on us getting tired and going away but we are not going anywhere.

Northeastern thought they could wave away our concerns by claiming there was no demand for fair housing. This massive groundswell of support proves they were lying to our faces.

The communication at the beginning about all-gender was confusing, we had a good number and still got THE LAST apartment in our configuration, and then housing made me have a panic attack in class after they "mistyped" when responding to a very high stakes questions. Come on, now.
I’m absolutely livid with Northeastern’s all gender housing. My selection number this year was in the low 500s, but there were still only TWO housing options made available for me and my roommates, simply because we wanted all gender housing.
My friends and i were contemplating the exact same complaint; it’s not fair in the slightest that our housing options are severely limited in quantity and affordability based on the fact that we want to live with people of the opposite gender, but we didn’t feel we would have much influence on university policy. Thank you for standing up to this.
Students running out of all gender apartments, having to split up, and being forced to live in a potentially uncomfortable situation (and on-campus living is mandatory for a lot of people) defies the entire purpose of having all gender housing in the first place and is not a good look for a school that markets itself as inclusive.
Sex-segregated housing is outdated, unnecessary, and not conducive to the well-being of LGBTQIA+ students on campus. Students who require gender-neutral housing should not have their housing options limited as a result.
Northeastern needs to change their housing process to not discriminate against housing by gender.
