This has been a problem since I was a freshman in 2013 and I’m upset to see it hasn’t changed.

Northeastern needs to change their housing process to not discriminate against housing by gender.

The communication at the beginning about all-gender was confusing, we had a good number and still got THE LAST apartment in our configuration, and then housing made me have a panic attack in class after they "mistyped" when responding to a very high stakes questions. Come on, now.

I’m absolutely livid with Northeastern’s all gender housing. My selection number this year was in the low 500s, but there were still only TWO housing options made available for me and my roommates, simply because we wanted all gender housing.

My friends and I have to split up our housing group for this summer and have been all but forced to move off campus in the Fall because all gender housing options are so limited that we likely would have had to take housing in enhanced apartments, which are too expensive to afford. Upperclassman apartment housing is already in buildings that are all gender, and each floor is all gender, so why should it matter what mix of students are living in each individual apartment? It's not just that Northeastern's all gender housing policy doesn't make any sense-- the policy is frankly just discriminatory. All gender housing is clearly intended first and foremost for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Therefore, this community is the one suffering the most direct, negative impact at the hand of Northeastern's outdated and unnecessarily restrictive policy. It needs to go.

My friends and i were contemplating the exact same complaint; it’s not fair in the slightest that our housing options are severely limited in quantity and affordability based on the fact that we want to live with people of the opposite gender, but we didn’t feel we would have much influence on university policy. Thank you for standing up to this.

Northeastern administrators need to stop breaking the law and taking every chance to be terrible that they can get their greedy paws on

Students running out of all gender apartments, having to split up, and being forced to live in a potentially uncomfortable situation (and on-campus living is mandatory for a lot of people) defies the entire purpose of having all gender housing in the first place and is not a good look for a school that markets itself as inclusive.

Sex-segregated housing is outdated, unnecessary, and not conducive to the well-being of LGBTQIA+ students on campus. Students who require gender-neutral housing should not have their housing options limited as a result.
