The board finally committed to holding our elections and it is genuinely overwhelming to see this process moving forward after so long. This result belongs entirely to the 194 of you who pushed for transparency when it felt like nobody was listening. I plan to keep a close eye on …

The members of the Olentangy Swim Association would like to call for the outgoing board to call for open nominations and an election to be held for all the OSA board positions as stated in the bylaws. The bylaws state an election should be held every year, which has not been happening. An election has not happened in at least 9 years. Any requests that have been made to the outgoing board in regards to the current transition and getting a new board in place have gone unanswered.

We need to have a new board in place for next year ASAP if there is going to be enough planning time to open the pool by Memorial Day. For swim team families, this is our year to hold champs for our swim league. The planning for champs for the league begins in January so it is imperative for a new board to be in place by January.

Applicable portions of the Bylaws below:

ARTICLE IV TRUSTEES

Section 4.01. Authority and Qualifications.

Except where the law, the Articles or the Regulations otherwise provide, all authority of the Association shall be vested in and exercised by its Trustees. Trustees must be either a Member or the spouse of a Member. Not less than a majority of the Trustees shall be residents of Powell, Ohio. Only persons who are nominated as candidates, whether such nomination is made by a committee of the Board or by a Member at a meeting of the Members, shall be eligible for election as Trustees.

Section 4.02. Number of Trustees and Term of Office.

Until changed in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations, the number of Trustees shall be 4. Each Trustee shall be elected to serve until the next annual meeting of Members and until his successor is duly elected and qualified or until his earlier resignation, removal from office or death. The number of Trustees may be fixed or changed at a meeting of Members called for the purpose of electing Trustees only by the affirmative vote of a majority of the Members voting, in person or by proxy, at the meeting. The Trustees may fix or change the number of Trustees and may fill any Trustee's office that is created by an increase in the number of Trustees. No reduction in the number of Trustees shall have the effect of shortening the term of any incumbent Trustee.

Section 4.03. Election.

At each annual meeting of Members for the election of Trustees, the successors to the Trustees whose term shall expire in that year shall be elected, but if the annual meeting is not held or if one or more of such Trustees are not elected thereat, they may be elected at a special meeting called for that purpose. The election of Trustees shall be by ballot whenever requested by the presiding officer of the meeting or by a majority of the Members present, in person or by proxy, but unless such request is made, the election shall be by voice vote.

I am truly overwhelmed by the number of people who have stepped forward to ask for transparency regarding our board. This has grown into something much larger than I ever imagined when I wrote that first sentence. The strength of this community is what keeps me going while we wait for any kind of response from those currently in charge.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the momentum we are seeing right now because I truly never imagined so many people felt the same way about our pool. This really is happening because you all refused to let our bylaws be ignored any longer. I am just so grateful to be part of this group effort to get things back on track.

Nine years is way too long for no elections. Time for some fresh faces to step in and run the place properly.

With the exception of one year, my daughter has been a member of the Tangy Tornadoes since she was eligible, so we have been members of the Powell Pool. We would like to continue as members, but the pool desperately needs a new cohort of committed board members. Please act on this.

Thank you for organizing. Is there a document stating what positions there are so people can view them?

I would love to be a trustee. What needs to be done to apply to be a trustee?
