Final supporters
1. Portland students should receive additional instructional hours. The goal should be at least 180 days (the national average) which will enable educators more time to raise our graduation rates, close the achievement gap, and improve test scores.
2. Portland students deserve teachers who are fully qualified in both the subject matter and the grade level they are teaching.
3. The contract language should support parent communication and engagement in order to encourage parents to be more involved in student learning.
4. The contract language should embrace the use of trained communityvolunteers to support teachers and help provide the individual attention students need to learn and grow.
Finally, we recognize that an unreasonable teacher workload adversely impacts student learning. We need more teachers to give students the individual attention they deserve.
To that end, we ask the district to issue a memorandum of understanding that any additional levy or state funds be allocated directly to hiring new teachers (until a targeted student/teacher ratio is reached).

The path forward is exhausting but we are nearing two hundred and fifty signatures. This next milestone provides the leverage we need to demand actual change for our students. Please help us get over this hump before the negotiations stall completely.

The negotiations behind the scenes remain slow and draining despite the clear needs of our students. I am exhausted by the lack of progress but I see no other choice than to keep pushing until the district listens.

The grind of these negotiations has been long but we are pushing toward our first hundred signatures. Please take a moment to pass this along so we have the necessary backing when we bring these demands to the district.

Balanced, Informational presentation of negotiations presented at Grant Parent Meeting last week made by Eliza. Appreciate the hard work all three members are doing to understand and present the issues.
Fully qualified teachers in every room is just common sense. Thanks for pushing for this.
