I am concerned we are sitting back and watching private education overtake public education in the US, further widening the already-stark socioeconomic and racial disparities. Is that the goal of the board? We need leadership and administration willing to look at the science that children are not the drivers of this pandemic and a focus on reopening schools. Will WCPSS show that leadership? I give WCPSS credit for trying to be equitable last year, but it did not work. As hard as we tried the home learning disparities were too great. We need to do better for our most vulnerable populations. Almost half of our students have chosen not to return to in person education opting instead for: VA, homeschool, or private. Others do not have the means to provide a quality at home learning experience. I ask you to allow the rest of our student to return in person to allow them an equitable education.

I am 100% in support of the children returning to school. Though I do support a choice for those families that wish to choose virtual learning, I do not believe that virtual learning is mentally or physically healthy, and I am scared that our children will face more harm than good if the decision is made to go all virtual. The kids NEED face to face instruction and social interaction! The children need us now more ever to fight for their well-being! If anybody needs volunteers for a grass roots effort to support the kids returning to school, sign me up!

We really need in person school since my husband and I work full time outside of the home. It is not fair to those that cannot be home to have our teenagers learning full time at home with no supervision. With percentage of families doing Virtual Academy at 40% and rising this will reduce numbers in the classroom greatly.

My children’s mental health is as important as their physical health. My children cannot learn virtually, they are not wired that way. Please consider in-person instruction.

Kids need school. This is about long term success and dealing with life. If you keep them out of the classroom doing good things, they will be hanging out outside of the classroom doing less productive things. We will lose far more kids to mental health issues and isolation than covid. Let the 50-60% go to school. Let the others stay home. Go one week on one week off if you must...giving teachers time to work on online assignments. Respect kids who want to work and be productive students if it works for them.

Please open schools. I know change is hard but preschools have been running successfully since March. My child will be at camp regardless of your decision. Very few clusters of confirmed cases have been found at preschools over the last few months. Why will it be different? Also, in preschools children do not wear masks or social distance. We are keeping classrooms isolated. You can do it!

My son just had no motivation for school work when it became online. He didn't learn anything. I would like full time classroom education no online. Teaching math or AP classes is not the same online. They also need to continue athletic. We all have to still go to work and I think so can our kids with extra precautions. My son is a junior in high school and I don't have to worry about daycare but I still want him to go to school.
