We, the undersigned, are appealing with the US government for the immediate ease of the sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, and to allow for aid to get into the country and help the victims of the recent earthquake. Many individuals and organizations with close ties to Syria cannot send help due to the sanctions. We are asking to allow such entities to send help directly to the affected areas in Syria. We are also asking the government to allow American citizens, American licensed non-profit organizations, and any other US donors to send money and aid directly to the affected areas and people in Syria without risking prosecution. This plea to lift some of the imposed sanctions excludes the individuals and entities named by the government in these sanctions.

This is a humanitarian case and politics should not be a barrier to helping ease the suffering of innocent people who have already been suffering tremendously from the ramifications of the civil war.

The US has imposed extremely tough sanctions on the Syrian people for many years. These sanctions have been suffocating, above all, to the innocent people in Syria resulting in very difficult living conditions such as ultra-high inflation, lack of basic goods, shortages of fuel, gasoline, power, clean drinking water to name a few.

To make things even worse, Syria was hit, along with Türkiye, by a devastating earthquake on February 6. This earthquake has left thousands dead and many more injured and homeless. The sanctions are making it rather very difficult for aid to get into the country, particularly to the many affected areas. The people there need the very basics to sustain them and keep them alive. Warm shelters, food, medical care, fuel for heavy machinery to remove the rubble, and a lot more are things that can be very helpful at this time. People are sleeping in the open in cold, rainy, and snowy conditions, either because their homes were destroyed by the tremors, or because of fear of more aftershocks. Men, women, and children have almost nothing to keep them warm or to eat. Many children who were miraculously rescued are now orphaned because the rest of their families did not make it. This is why we are asking to ease the sanctions, allow compassionate people to help, and give American Syrians the right to support their families in Syria.
