To whom it may concern,

This petition is a request to expand the allowable elective class selection for the EAE graduate student body to courses beyond those offered by the Department of Film Studies.

In a field that demands an increasingly specialized and diverse set of skills and knowledge, it would be to our great advantage as students if we be allowed, in cooperation and coordination with our academic advisers, to entertain elective classes outside of the film department.

We feel film is a useful body of knowledge for the medium of video games, but for those of us signed below, the ability to pursue more immediately needed skills or knowledge sets is far more pressing (for example, graphic design, 3D modelling, programming, motivational psychology, or business theory.) For students who are previous film studies alumni, the need for knowledge diversification is even more urgent, as those of us signed below feel we already possess a far greater breadth of film studies experience than our field demands.

As students, we recognize a need that is going unheeded. We feel a void in our skill sets is developing by being denied the freedom to pursue the learning experiences we and our advisers believe we need. In some cases, we feel very acutely that our competitiveness as future professionals and academics will suffer as a result.

By being allowed to consider a more diverse set of elective courses, inclusive of those on offer by the film department, we will better be able to tailor our educational experience and position ourselves for success in our coming careers.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
