Neighbors: I'm meeting with David Wright/DWP Chief Accountability Officer next week, to address my concerns with the long-neglected DWP lot at the end of Waverly and Locksley (and behind HOME Restaurant and the little church on Fletcher). I'd like to take this petition with me with specifically your signatures on it, simply saying that you agree that DWP should address these 4 issues on the lot:

1- Continued Use: Continue to allow limited use of the lot by the neighborhood (to walk dogs, cut through to HOME Restaurant, etc).

2- Security: Securing the lot from negative uses that affect our quality of life and property values (homeless encampments, teen parties, drug/alcohol use). This could include security lighting, fencing, and regular patrolling by DWP Security.

3- Beautification: Improve the aesthetics of the lot, with an eye to improving it similar to other large DWP lots in Silver Lake, i.e. the Mulholland Fountain @ Los Feliz Blvd/Riverside Dr, The Meadow, the Rowena Reservoir @ Rowena and Hyperion, and even the DWP sub-station building on Fletcher, next door to HOME, at the foot of this lot.

4- Maintainance: Regular (weekly or monthly) maintenance including trash and debris removal, removal of tagging, maintenance of the greenscaping on the lot, etc. Currently, DWP only "maintains" the lot twice annually, which consists of mowing down everything on the lot and some trash removal.

I'm NOT looking for dozens of signatures on this petition, and am specifically asking for your signatures because I've spoken with each of you personally, or via email, about this issue and know you care about it. Additionally, many of you live right next door to the lot, and I know it affects you and your family even more than it affects me and my family. I am not going to this meeting as a "representative of the neighborhood". I'm going as an individual. But, I feel having signatures from a few of my neighbors would be very valuable, as it demonstrates I'm not the only one in the area who cares about improving this giant eyesore/unsafe property.

If any of you wanted to email a letter to me separately, expressing your specific feelings about the lot, I'd love to take those with me to the meeting too. Send to: [email protected].

Thanks for your time. Onward and upward!

Herb

Walking the kids and dogs through this part of our neighborhood is unsafe and disappointing. On our last walk there two days ago we had to explain drugs and graffiti to our kids as we saw both physically taking place in broad daylight.

It would be so nice to have this lot as beautiful as some other DWP properties. The steps are such a classic part of Silverlake.

Would love to see some changes to this area of town.
