This is a petition to Gallions from the residents of Dragonfly Place SE4. Since moving into the development in 2013 we residents have found the bikesheds installed by Gallions to be not fit for purpose. They are far too narrow meaning that manouverabilty inside is serverely reduced. It's an unnecessary struggle to get our bikes in and out, for the smallest of us it's practically impossible.
As many of the flats in the development come without a car parking space, their bikes may well be their only form of personal transport. Functional, roomy bikesheds are needed by all and are vital to the everyday lives of Dragonfly residents.
Since 2013 we have asked Gallions to replace the sheds with something more practical. We feel that our reasonable requests have not been listened to. Therefore we have taken it upon ourselves to show Gallions just how strongly our community feels about this.
We kindly demand that the sheds either be expanded or entirely replaced by larger sheds. We also demand that Gallions do this at their own expense
I fully support this. I store my bikes in these sheds and find it very incovenient to have to lift my bikes over the others to get them in and out on a daily basis. i'm 6'1", so it's a bit easier for me, but what about the residents who are not that tall? I would imagine that ease of access to retrieve bikes would have been at the top of the list of priorities when these sheds were designed. As for the security, the flimsy locks are far too inadequate to keep the heavy gate securely shut. The resultant wear and tear on the locks is obvious. These sheds need to be replaced/expanded/modified at Gallions's expense - we were assured secure bike storage at purchase. A practical design would encourage more residents to cycle and keep our bikes secure.
