These events are necessary to keep small towns like Spencer financially stable! It brings tourists and non locals to the community and helps in so many ways! These events are important for the community!

The sense of community in the center of Sweet Owen County that is built by events around the symbol of our county seat cannot be replicated at alternate locations in Spencer. Symbols are what pull us together in times of celebration and trouble. It creates the kind of community that so many seek and cannot find unless we provide it. Think of all of our efforts as spreading the art of community building...perhaps we can help it catch on in other places, but it certainly has taken root here and it would be both tragic and irresponsible to tear it out by it’s roots.

I really enjoy the festivals around the square. The square is the heart of the town. If you stop the heart then the festivals will die off. The fair is a fantastic place for festivities but then you have to deal with the rules, guidelines, restrictions, and I'm sure it cost more money to use. Why not just use the square also? What's it hurting?
