It saddens me to see the division that is happening. To remove future events is taking our rights away to make our own choices if we chose to participate or not. This also takes away from local businesses that this county has fought hard to bring back. To take away our rights to make our own choices is a tragedy.

I am deeply saddened by what I have been reading because I believed Spencer was becoming a more accepting and inclusive community but I guess not everyone. Reading concerns about bathrooms and protecting morals is really just a cover for a lack of acceptance and a denial of reality. Folks who continue to bury their heads in the sand and ignore the the harm that is done when you target marginalized community members or groups are hurting the ENTIRE community- including possibly their own family members. Leave the festivals in place on the square (including PRIDE) and allow community members to decide for themselves which to attend.

It is so exciting to see all of the work being done to keep downtown Spencer vibrant and fun for all ages. Businesses and the community are thriving. Please further this effort by continuing to allow peaceful public events, including Spencer Pride, to use the Courthouse Square. As a neighbor and fellow county government official, I think the formation of a committee to advise the Commissioners on appropriate and inclusive modifications to the events policy is an appropriate path forward. Thank you for reading this. Geoff McKim, Monroe County Council.

This is a great tradition to keep doing
Unfortunately our town moved everything to the park etc
Businesses have suffered or closed
Don’t let this happen to your beautiful town

Events downtown are the only reason I visit Spencer. I spend money to get there, and while I am there. That’ $X into the community and economy. Does Spencer government want to take on the responsibility of damaging the town’s economy?

Keep all Festivals. Celebrate diversity! If you don’t like it, stay away. Stop being self righteous! God and Jesus loved all
People. Stop hating people different from you! And it’s good for downtown businesses to have a welcoming town.

I strongly support the Spencer Pride festival and the opportunity for all to use Owen County's public spaces for similar events.

I attended Spencer Pride, and love the Tivoli. bloomington’s Street festivals use our streets and Courthouse Square, for they are the community. Please keep yours open and busy, thronged with people too.

We need to keep the festivals on the square. The merchants on the square deserve this and the community want the festivals to stay at the courthouse.
The state is watching!
