I was born and raised in Owen County. The square was a hub of activity. When big box stores moved into the area the small businesses around the square began to close. I left in the early 80’s and when I came back in the 90’s downtown was depressed with closed and boarded up windows. I was back this summer for Spencer Pride and was so amazed at how vibrant the area around the square had become. I also spent close to $100 at businesses around the square while I was there! Keep the festivals at the square!

We need to strengthen the economic core of Owen County and the festivals on our Square are part of that.

As a resident of spencer my whole life there has been festivals and events on the courthouse square this is a tradition. I remember as a child we use to even have a carnival on the courthouse square. Keep downtown an active place to continue growth.

all festivals and put apple butter back on the square, since being at the fair grounds it has gone nothing but down hill

First time at Spencer Pride; Indy Pride member & Free Mom Hugs giver. Can’t wait to return. So many happy kids w/bounce house, water feature (SO hot!), food trucks, & SMILES. Took home a big jar of happy when I headed home. Saw one half-hearted protester a block away, so the “outraged people” were hiding REALLY well, or simply not there to see what Pride is about.

My earliest memories of Spencer are of festivals and parades in the square. As an adult, and having been involved with both the Tivoli and Spencer Main Street I know how important these events are to the success of our downtown businesses and the overall charm of our community.
