As UiS employees, we already contribute our time, skills, and dedication to our workplace. Charging us extra to park at our jobs is unfair and adds unnecessary financial strain. We call for free parking for employees – parking should support our work, not penalize it.

Our key arguments:

• Limited alternatives: Kolumbus bikes on campus are often unavailable, and while the HjemJobbHjem scheme offers reduced public transport tickets, it still requires additional costs from employees.
• Equality and accessibility: Not everyone lives close enough to cycle or has access to efficient public transport. For many, driving is the only viable option.
• Green campus contradiction: While the argument for paid parking is tied to sustainability and green spaces, no new green spaces are being created with this system. Instead, it simply shifts costs to employees without real environmental improvements.
• Support employees, don’t penalize them: Parking should make it easier for us to do our jobs, not add financial stress.

We call on UiS to reconsider this policy and provide free or fair parking options for employees. Sustainability goals should not come at the direct expense of workers’ well-being.
