I am shocked that intelligent members of society such as the mayor or other public officials cannot recognize that this is animal cruelty he and they are encouraging this behavior by participating in this event. I am sure there are other ways of raising money besides using animals is a form of entertainment.

Embarrassing that 'donkey ball' still exists let alone is considered a fun event in this day and age - does anyone honestly think the animals enjoy this nonsense? They're most likely frightened and uncomfortable. Pathetic that someone would actually allow this event to go on. How about the people play basketball on their own? Sad, ridiculous and unbelievable...

It has come to my attention that Oak Lawn Community high school has a situation of animal abuse with their donkey ball game. Ill have you guys know that if this game goes on, i will deport the staff of oak lawn and the village when i become president.

During donkey ball activities, animals are often slapped, dragged and kicked by children or adults who usually have no experience handling them. The lack of skill, combined with the adrenaline of competition and the excitement of the crowd, creates an environment with potential for extreme abuse. As well, most participants are much too heavy for the donkeys they are riding. According to The Donkey Sanctuary in the UK, the average standard donkey (the size usually used for these events) should carry no more than 110lbs. Any more weight than that can cause permanent damage to tendons, ligaments and the skeletal structure.
Donkey basketball and baseball events send young people the message that it is OK to abuse and humiliate those who are in a helpless condition.
