Let's come up with more intelligent forms of entertainment and fundraising that doesn't involve the misuse of donkeys. I am a local teacher, and lifelong resident of Oak Lawn and find this tournament very disturbing and a bad example of what constitutes "fun".
I cannot believe this is even a thing. Evolve humans. Be kind to animals. Donkeys are not here for our whimsy or to fund-raise. Have a bake sale. Collect donations at intersections. Leave the animals alone!

Under no circumstances is this kind of animal 'use' acceptable. What a wretched message to send out to the public.... abuse of animals (and yes, it IS an abuse) for money. How incredibly backward. Thank you to these young humans for seeing and acting compassionately.
As an animal lover & no-kill shelter volunteer I'm opposed to the idea of "Donkey Basketball". Although I support Oak Lawn's desire to raise money for worthy causes, there's got to be a more humane way. Stay strong ladies!
In some cases this is painful for the donkeys, and in every case simply not fun for any donkey. Having fun at someone else's expense is never ok.
GOD did not create donkeys to play basketball, wherein, they will be forced to endure extreme anxiety, stress, and confusion. Basketball is for humans not donkeys.

As a long-time owner of some very precious donkeys and knowing their very sensitive personalities, I find this type of 'fundraiser' appalling. I agree with all concerns raised. Also duly noted -- this sets a horrible example for our kids!! Mistreatment of animals is never acceptable or 'okay!'
