PETITION TO NAME THE WATSONVILLE CITY PLAZA PARK AFTER CIVIL, FARMWORKER & WOMEN'S RIGHTS LEADER DOLORES HUERTA
Dolores Huerta is one of the greatest Mexican American leaders who struggled for the rights of farmworkers throughout the United States, including the Pajaro Valley. She is a former elementary school teacher, former Regent of the University of California and has dedicated her life to champion social justice for our nation’s farmworkers along with Cesar Chavez. In 1993, she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame for her lifelong achievements. She made significant contributions on a local, state and national level. She is a role model for the youth of our community and continúes to promote peace, education and community service in all her work.
WE ASK THE CITY COUNCIL TO NAME THE PARK, “DOLORES HUERTA CITY PLAZA”.
IT WOULD BE THE FIRST PARK IN THE UNITED STATES NAMED AFTER HER.
The city council remains quiet but I am still spending my evenings tracking down local offices to make sure they see this work. It is exhausting to keep pushing when the process feels this slow but I truly believe we owe this recognition to such a leader.

The momentum behind this request is finally starting to feel undeniable. It has been an exhausting path to get this message in front of the city but the tide is clearly turning.

My grandmother worked the fields under her leadership. This would mean so much to the community.
