The City of Laguna Beach's Recreation Department is reviewing a request to adjust the summer dog date and time restrictions. The suggestion is as follows:
DATES: FROM: 6/1-9/16 TO: 6/20-9/8 Shortens the "summer season: by four weeks and more closely mirrors LBUSD calendar.
TIMES during above dates: FROM: 8am-6pm TO: 10am-5pm. Gives dog walkers three more hours per day during the summer in order to maintain expercise routines. Lifeguards come on duty at 10am.
Achieves original objective for dogs to be off the beach during key summer crowd days and time while allowing more flexability!

I have spent this week reviewing the feedback left in the comments and it is clear that balancing public space access remains a complex issue for our community. The goal is to find a responsible path forward that respects both beach safety and the needs of local pet owners. I am currently preparing a summary of these perspectives to share with the Recreation Department during our upcoming review.

The growing momentum behind this proposal highlights how many of us value these shared spaces for our pets. Seeing this level of engagement suggests a bridge can be built between the needs of our community and the preservation of our beaches.

Been living here 20 years and the rules are way too strict. Let us enjoy the beach with our dogs!
My dog loves the beach and we are super responsible owners. This helps us out so much on the weekends.
SO NEEDED. Its so hot in the afternoons anyway so earlier morning hours are way better for the pups.
PLEASE pass this. The current rules make it impossible to get any exercise in during the week before work.
Great idea. The crowds arent even at the beach at 9am anyway. Hope the city listens to us for once.

Finally some common sense. We just want to walk our dogs before the beach gets too packed. 3 hours makes a huge difference.
