DOGS AND CATS ARE BEING OVER VACCINATED WITH THE RABIES VACCINE IN WILSON COUNTY
Wilson county’s rabies vaccine ordinance requires dogs and cats to be vaccinated yearly.
The Rabies Challenge Fund trials have confirmed that the rabies vaccine may induce a duration of immunity well beyond 3 years. Those that have adopted a 3 year schedule do not have a higher rate of positive cases in domestic animals in comparison to those still on a 1 year schedule.
Surrounding counties touching Wilson -3/5 moves to 3-year schedule ….Bexar, Gonzales, Guadalupe (3year) ….Atascosa and Karnes (1year)
My vet will be meeting Monday 5/18 to discuss a petition change Section 5.1 Rabies Vaccination in the Wilson County Animal Control Ordinance from annually to every 3 years.
My vet and I had this discussion and I said I would help with the petition. PLEASE HELP OUR CATS AND DOGS FROM BEING OVER VACCINATED.

ridiculous that we are still doing this every year when the science says otherwise. its time to update the rules for wilson county
WAY TOO MANY SHOTS. leave our pets alone.
My vet told me the yearly shots are totally unnecessary and just hard on my dogs system. Please change this law.
Dogs, cats do not need a rabies shot every year. I used to go to feed store and purchase and give the rabies shot to my animals about every 3 to 4 years. . Nor do they need much of the others vets pushing. I have had many die early due to these multiple shots and meds.
This is important to me because I do not want to have unnecessary vaccines injected into my dogs.
My dogs are my babies and I do NOT want to be REQUIRED to poison them yearly.
The hassle. I lived in Whitman Tx and they were on the 3 year and that was 15 plus years ago

I run a boarding kennel and I believe we are over vaccinating our dogs. I accept titers at my kennel in leu of most vaccinations.
