Dear Herr Klaus Wowereit, Please accept this letter of petition from an ardent admirer of Herr Thomas Doerflein, a keeper at the Berlin Zoo. I and countless others around the world petition for Herr Doerflein to be honored and awarded by the city of Berlin and country of Germany, for his personal sacrifice and dedication to Knut the polar bear. Herr Doerflein has tirelessly devoted round-the-clock care to Knut, hand-raising him from a tiny infant to the strong healthy bear he is today. Herr Doerflein is a testament to what we humans can do to save the wild from endangerment and extinction, bringing Knut to the world stage and giving attention to the plight of his wild cousins, their melting habitat, and indeed all endangered species on the planet.
