The city confirmed today that the Houston Police Chinatown station will resume full operations next month. We have achieved our objective of securing a timeline for reopening this essential community resource. I will continue to monitor the station transition to ensure our bilingual staffing requirements are fully met.

The Houston Police Chinatown station has been closed since March 2020 when COVID-19 hit the city. Starting this week, most businesses within the jurisdiction of the police station are reopening. However the station is remaining closed and the public has not received any communication as to when it will open again. With all that is going on in the nation at the time, a full operation of this station is imperative for the well-beings of the residents and businesses in the area as officers at this station are all bilingual and specially trained to serve the community. We STRONGLY urge the city of Houston to make the community aware of its plan, and reopen this station for this diverse community.

We are currently moving toward the one thousand signature threshold. Securing this number before our formal meeting with the Chief of Police is essential to demonstrate the unified demand for the reactivation of the Chinatown station.

June 10, 2020

We are approaching one hundred signatures and the city council is currently tracking this engagement. Please distribute this link to your neighborhood networks immediately to ensure we cross this milestone before our scheduled briefing with local officials.

We have many other ways to fight against racist. But closing police department is definitely not an option. When we appreciated healthcare provider for their heroic action in the pandemic, the law and order maintain by police officers during the pandemic should also be greatly appreciated!

ChinaTown has so many different kinds or national people, not only Chinese. It does need a police station. China Town also has so many company and commercials, there business pay lots of tax, the Government should have responsibilities to maintain the peace and security of this area.

I have lived in Chinatown area for a good while, so I know what it was like. I can’t imagine how much worse it will be if this sub-station closed down. I believe this station is absolutely essential for the safety in this area
