I think the tech program at ET is fantastic and should not be altered!! It prepares young adults for the real world and sets them up for success!! Leave as is!!

Eastern Tech is not only where all 3 of my children attend, but it is also where my husband and I attended. It is by far the BEST school in BCPS and should remain a full Magnet school always. I have so much pride to say I went to ET and to wear all of my ET apparel everywhere I go. This school was my safe haven and is for children today. Please keep ET as it is, or consider adding back the vocational trades the American work force still so desperately needs such as electricians, plumbers, and Hvac.
why take away a great program ?! I wish I would've taken it more seriously then I did ! save tech !

The career majors are what make ETHS distinct from other magnet or non-magnet schools. I learned a plethora of invaluable knowledge from Allied Health, which translated into high performance in my college pre-med and bioethics courses. I'll never forget how impressed my bioethics professor (who later became my college adviser) in Georgetown was when I explained the etymology of the word "euthanasia;” I learned that the prefix “eu-” means “good” in Greek from the medical terminology unit of Allied Health; I learned that Thanatos was the Greek personification of Death in Latin class when we discussed Greek and Roman mythology. This is just one quintessential example of how the tech program fosters genuine learning in ETHS. The career majors are an irreplaceable, if not integral, factor in choosing to matriculate into ETHS and in high performance within and beyond ETHS. The tech part of ETHS fosters interdisciplinary methods of thinking; it drives thinking beyond what is baseline expected. The tech aspect is by definition applied mathematics, science, technology, and more; as we all know, it is applied learning that creates this nation’s polymaths and future CEO’s/ CFO’s. Dissociating the Tech from Eastern Technical High School may dissolve the very framework that allowed me to be admitted to Georgetown University, get 5’s on 9 of the 11 AP exams I had taken, and receiving a 2220 out of 2400 on my SAT. I attribute much of my success to the tech program in ETHS.

I graduated from the ETHS Engineering program in 2008 before continuing my education in Engineering at the University of Maryland. I received my B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering from UMD in 2012 (first in my family to attend and graduate from college). I currently work as a contract engineer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Fire Research Laboratory- assisting federal law enforcement with arson investigation. I can honestly say that the ETHS Engineering program provided me with the foundation necessary to compete with students in the UMD engineering program - most of whom received similar engineering educations, but while attending private schools. Being able to receive this kind of education prior to college (FOR FREE nonetheless) is one of the main reasons why I am where I am today. I have found myself using the skills acquired from the ETHS Engineering program countless times throughout my young career. I really hope that we do not deprive future generations the same opportunities afforded to my classmates and myself.

ETHS needs to stay a magnet program. It may be exclusive and though to get into but that's what makes it the top notch school it is and I hate to see it turn into what the other schools in the area have become.

Eastern Technical High School is a great school that has emerged numerous of outstanding students and has prepared not only myself, but former classmates for the "real world" and college life. Taking the magnet out of Eastern Tech should not even be debated. This is simply out of the question. Eastern Tech would not be Eastern Tech without these programs. It has only benefited from it. Blue ribbon school and nationally ranked, how much better can it get?

It was bad enough when they changed the original name of the school but this is going to far! EVT was a nationally ranked school almost from the beginning. Why should the school board make changes to this school. Instead it should be used as an example to build more schools just like it. Why should a school with little to no behavioral issues, extremely high attendance ratings and high number of students that go on to college be the school that BCPS wants to change? I am a VERY proud graduate of this school and it would be a shame to change it.

ET is one of the best schools in the stay, and changing it would ruin it for kids who plan o go there because their own high school is not very good. changing this school would decline the scores for all bcps high schools and dramatically change their appeal

generations have gone through the magnet programs. Eastern Tech is known for having intelligent students from the drive of coming out of high school with more than just a basic high school education. Why mess and destroy with something that works positively and effectively?!

Don't change the magnet programs. They help provide valuable knowledge when entering into college on that particular career field. In some majors it also helps achieve you college credit on classes that you would have to take in college if you choose to continue that major.

I was a graduate of the 1976 class. I was saddened when the original school name was changed. I would be devastated if my grandchildren were robbed of the same educational opportunities I had.
