The workshop is officially going ahead and the pressure to cancel it has finally subsided. I am drained from this fight but incredibly grateful that we held our ground against those who wanted it gone. Let us stay vigilant in case they try to revisit this again.

We urgently need your help. On Tuesday 18th at 6.30 Women's Committee have to attend a Welfare Zone meeting to make sure the workshop still goes ahead and show that self defining women on campus strongly support this event.

Seeing this level of support keeps me going when the pushback feels overwhelming. We still have a difficult road ahead at the meeting but knowing so many of you are behind this gives us the strength to keep fighting.

This is ridiculous - as a burlesque performer, if there is one thing that I love about the art form it's that it's so diverse and accepting, regardless of gender, race, age, class, body shape and size, and background. Anyone who believes it is 'middle class stripping' is clearly very misinformed
This shouldn't be cancelled! I have done a few classes with Kitty Beaumont and I have never felt uncomfortable with anything that has been done. I also been it has helped me become more confident in myself each class because it allows us to just feel relaxed and embrace the body we have and be proud of it.
It is not any student union's remit to be dictated to by a university, let alone a minority of one lecturer, when it comes to students freedom of expression and safe enjoyment by the student body. They have failed miserably in their purpose to advance student interests and act as a barrier against antiquated objection from the university.
this should not be cancelled! I am involved with the renegade angels burlesque group in Hull and love the effect burlesque has on our ladies. I've never seen so many confident and proud women under one roof. do not cancel and allow women to miss out on such a wonderful opportunity. burlesque is tease not sleaze. don't be ignorant, it is positive for everyone.
Burlesque is empowering and liberating not objectifying to women . It gives us power over our bodies including the ability to show case our sex appeal in a way that is fun and good exercise . I've been doing burlesque forvyears and I don't think I'm any less of a feminist just because I enjoy this style of dance
Modern Burlesque is performed predominantly by females and to a predominantly female audience (however, men are both welcome to perform and to watch). Young women are growing up in a society that dictates how they should look, what they should wear and even how they should feel and behave. With mounting pressure being piled upon women in an increasingly media-centric society, the female body is subject to more scrutiny than ever. Burlesque fights against this by empowering and celebrating the female form in all its glory, and allows women to become empowered sexual subjects in control of their own bodies, rather than a subject of the male gaze. The sheer fact that performers remove their clothes, parodies the social stigma about the privacy of the female naked body and allows women to be proud of themselves, no matter what shape, size, age or colour! Burlesque is a spectacle that uses comedy, theatre, dance and intricate props and costumes to ultimately tell a story. Within Burlesque, you can be whoever you want to be, without being judged. Please explain to me why any of this is a negative thing?
Although I've never been to this workshop, I cannot see how it should be stopped just because one lecturer thought something was wrong. It's a matter of women's self-worth, not whether a single he/she agrees with it.

Maybe you need to come watch a class...You might understand it is all clean healthy fun, iam a single mum of 3, this is the ONLY place i ever get to go on my own..I love my thursday dance class and it has bought me a whole new lease of life..Im not just a mum..iam jackie to.
