What kind of community do we live in? Who does this city council vote benefit? Have we lost all compassion and humanity? I think it's appropriate that one person requested every city council members vote on this issue so that we can make an informed decision on who we as a community choose to vote for. This is absolutely appalling and at the moment I am ashamed of those who "represent " the Detroit Lakes community! I m pretty sure you city council members will find that you do need t speak for the Detroit Lakes community but simply for yourselves.

This is ridiculous. Leave them alone. They're not hurting anyone. My goodness I'm 54 and I worry about growing old in the USA and now I know why. They're both to old to be forced to move. Have the neighbors that are so bothered move. Or find them both a place to live paying the same rent. Just as nice or nicer. Compensate both for the heartache and stress you're causing them. God bless them both. And shame on you selfish people.

The city council need to be ashamed of yourselves. This property deserve to be grandfathered in and the owner should be allowed to have time to get it up to code. Setting a deadline of December for them to get out is utterly crap they are on a fixed income. I seriously hope you can all live with yourselves every time you look in the mirror.

This is so wrong on so many levels! Ppl need to b treated like ppl n not corporations. OUR VETS deserve so much better than this, so much better than what is ever given. It's enough of the "I appreciate your service but..." bs!! Act on your appreciation n stop being the problem of the USA, you know the land of the free because of the brave! And as for the 70 year old woman, who can live on ss alone? Let me answer that for you since you seem to have lost ur mind, NO ONE! She is taking care of herself and you want to prevent that and again create more problems for the citizens of your town/County and state. Bravo Detroit Lakes, shame on you! Do right by these folks!

This property needs to be grand fathered in. There is plenty of people that have offered to volunteer their services in order to fix the code violations and bring it up to the legal standards. The complainant admitted on Facebook that her complaints were about renters living in the garage which have been heavily denied by multiple people. This decision by the city council affects 3 elderly/disabled people, one of which is a veteran who is trying to recover from a liver transplant. According to the newspaper and City Council this whole issue came about because of too many rental units on a certain size lot. There is a very simple and easy way to fix this. Grandfather it in. period!

This is just wrong, the home has been there longer than the other people's rentals so if they are so upset with it they never should have not bought them. Now this woman and this veteran will be homeless because the Detroit Lakes City Council is only looking out for the rich and their tourists.
