Detroit Lakes, Minn. --A disabled veteran, now recovering from a liver transplant, and his little sheltie-type dog will have to find a new home, and a 70-year-old woman will lose her rental income, courtesy of the Detroit Lakes City Council.

The veteran, Brian Fraser, choked up at the thought of giving up his dog while addressing the council.

The Detroit Lakes City Council is turning their backs on a veteran in need and we need to hit five hundred signatures to force them to look at the damage they are causing. Post the link to your feed right now because we cannot let this happen on our watch.

Are there any family of Verlin and Adeline McKenzie or Rudolph and Elma Bunkowski? They were the previous owners of this address... Mckenzie's purchased in 1969 and Bunkowski's in 1962...that could provide proof of it being a rental before it was purchased by now owner in 1977.

This property and rental should be grandfathered in and be given a year to bring it up to code. For a city that thrives in hospitality and friendliness, I am disappointed. As a consumer and future lake home buyer, I will not spend a dollar in Detroit Lakes if this decision is not reversed.

The DL council members should be ashamed of themselves! Why not grandfather the house in and ask only that the rental codes be fixed! Rent in DL are extremely expensive as I lived up there for two years. Have some compassion for this elderly lady and this veteran!

I am gravely concerned that a 70 uear old elderly lady is going to lose her rental income due to some easily fixable problems. I am also absolutely repulsed that DL would kick a vet out of his home- he is recovering from a liver transplant! Where is the compassion here?

There's nothing worse than neighbors who have to make trouble for others...except a City Council that won't accept the advice of an expert. Even the inspector told them to Grandfather it in.

This should be grandfathered in so he can continue to live there.

They should be able to stay there. And thank him for for serving our Country
