I witnessed one of the ONLY genuinely hunted horses not being allowed to compete in a working "hunter" class because of this REDICULOUS rule - they had already completed a notable clear before the stewards disallowed them.
Sadly I can't show my beautiful hunter anymore as she is now barefoot. She far better balanced and hasn't slipped her field once since her shoes came off (used to frequently) despite this awful weather! A well trimmed foot has more grip and balance than a shod one with studs! This is antiquated thinking sadly. Please open your minds and educate yourselves SHGB!!
Over the years it was deemed acceptable that obvious obese horses, were often placed in the rosettes! This is now changing, if we barefooters are made to conform to this rule who's to say attitudes won't then change in favour of choice to shoe or not to shoe. I also happen to have treeless saddle also, is that the next thing to be banned?!?
Horses who require remedial shoes should be allowed to wear them & horses with such good feet that they do not require shoes should be barefoot
It's about time that these bodies had a more forward thinking approach. I have 3 horses and all are barefoot, friends horses (4) are also barefoot and would rather veto SHB than change our approach to horse care !!
Barefoot is better! Get educated!! Owner's choice!
Lots of horses perform much better barefoot and should still have the chance to compete without compromising they comfort

If slipping is the issue when a judge rides, barefoot horses are generally more sure footed. With shoes to prevent slipping, studs must be used. Are these compulsory?
