Lots of horses perform much better barefoot and should still have the chance to compete without compromising they comfort

It is a lack of knowledge that causes discrimination. Barefoot works; it's safe, good for the horse and does not harm him. The horse should surely be the priority here.

If slipping is the issue when a judge rides, barefoot horses are generally more sure footed. With shoes to prevent slipping, studs must be used. Are these compulsory?

So long as your horse is sound and fit you should be able to compete with or without shoes, shoes are personnel choice not a necessity!

Surely if 'insurance cover' is being cited as the reason for this there must be a perceived risk of.....what exactly??

I witnessed one of the ONLY genuinely hunted horses not being allowed to compete in a working "hunter" class because of this REDICULOUS rule - they had already completed a notable clear before the stewards disallowed them.

It should be a choice made by the owner as to what's best for the health and performance of the horse.

I have been competing my horse for 5 years at local shows and riding club events on grass and other surfaces. Due to her losing shoes regularly i went bare foot over a year ago. The only inccident i have had was a slip and horse fall doing jump x this was 4 years ago and my horse was fully shot at the time. In the past year experienced no problems competing at local level/rc barefoot so far.

Surely the most important thing is that the horse is sound with or without shoes! It's the same argument for bitless!

This is ridiculous- why does this even need to be petitioned. If a horse is sound, it's sound, regardless of what may or may not be on their feet!!

Whether a horse is shod or not should depend entirely on what is best for the horse and the preference of its owner. In no way should an unshod horse be discriminated against at competition.
